Density and Texture: It grows extremely thick. This creates a lush feel that naturally chokes out weeds, reducing the need for chemical herbicides.
Shade Tolerance: While it loves full sun, it is significantly more shade-tolerant than Bermuda and Centipede.
Drought and Heat Resistance: It is highly efficient with water. During extreme drought, it may go dormant (turn brown) to protect itself, but it greens up rapidly once watered.
Maintenance: It is a slow grower, meaning it requires less mowing.
St. Augustine
Excellent Shade Tolerance: It is the most shade-tolerant sod we provide. It can thrive with only 4–6 hours of sunlight, making it ideal for lawns with large canopy trees.
Salt Tolerance: This grass is naturally adapted to coastal environments. It handles salty air and soil remarkably well.
Coarse Texture: Its blades are wide (up to 10mm) giving it a lush, soft feel underfoot but a more "open" texture that requires higher mowing heights (typically 2.5–3.5 inches).
Bermuda
Sunlight: Bermuda thrives on full, direct sunlight (typically 8+ hours per day)
Aggressive Growth & Recovery: It spreads rapidly to fill in bare spots and recover from heavy foot traffic
Drought & Heat Resilience: It has an extensive root system that reaches very deep into the soil. allowing it to retain moisture and survive extreme heat and drought.
Fine Texture: Bermuda has a very fine, soft texture that creates a dense, carpet-like feel underfoot when mowed short.
Centipede
Minimal Mowing: It grows vertically very slowly.
Low Fertility Needs: It thrives on neglect. It requires very little fertilization.
High Water Requirement: Due to its shallow, delicate root system Centipede requires a more consistent watering schedule.
